Adam Herendeen - Women's Head Coach

Adam Herendeen has been named the 10th head women's tennis coach in Texas Tech history on July 25, 2022.

In just his second season as the head coach of the Lady Raiders, Herendeen helped Tech to a program record 10 conference wins and a fourth-place finish in the Big 12, while also aiding the Lady Raiders their 12th-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance as well as a second-round berth after sweeping Denver in the first round. The Lady Raiders would go on to make the semifinals of the Big 12 Tournament and finish the season with their highest ranking since 2018 in No. 27. In addition, Texas Tech recorded its seventh 20-plus win season in program history and ninth in Herendeen's career.

Herendeen would coach five Big 12 honorees in Metka Komac, Avelina Sayfetdinova, Mariya Polishchuk, Andreea Lila and Cristina Tiglea. The duo of Polishchuk/Tiglea were named Big 12 Position Champions at Court Two Doubles, Lila was named the Big 12 Position Champion and Court Six Singles, Tiglea earned All-Big 12 First Team Singles and the duo of Komac/Sayfetdinova were Unanimous All-Big 12 First Team Doubles as well as the Big 12 Position Champions at Court One Doubles with a program record 20 wins at the spot. Herendeen coached the first ITA Doubles All-Americans in program history after Komac and Sayfetdinova, who closed out the season at No. 8 nationally, made it the furthest in school history at the NCAA Doubles Championships with a quarterfinals run. In addition, Tiglea would also qualify for the NCAA Singles Championships.

In his first season at the helm of the Lady Raiders, Herendeen coached the team to a 14-win season with five of those coming against ranked opponents, including his first Big 12 victory as the Texas Tech head coach against No. 20 Kansas on March 24, 2023. Picking up four conference wins, the Lady Raiders earned a No. 5 seed into the Big 12 Tournament.

Herendeen coached three All-Conference members as both Olivia Peet and Avelina Sayfetdinova picked up All-Big 12 Second Team Singles honors, while the duo of Sayfetdinova and Metka Komac were not only All-Big 12 Second Team Doubles selections but were also named the Big 12 Position Champions at the No. 1 doubles spot with a 6-1 record in league play. Sayfetdinova and Komac were also named as alternates for the NCAA Doubles Championships and finished the season ranked 30th in the nation.

During the fall, Herendeen coached the doubles pairing of Komac and Cristina Tiglea to a runner-up finish at the ITA Texas Regionals and a doubles spot at the ITA National Fall Championships, the first appearance for a Lady Raider pair since 2017. Herendeen led the Lady Raiders to their 11th consecutive NCAA Tournament and also coached five ITA Scholar-Athletes in his first year as head coach.

In his seven seasons leading the Paladins, Furman dominated the Southern Conference under Herendeen, securing six SoCon regular-season titles, five conference tournament crowns and five NCAA Tournament appearances. In fact, Furman was undefeated in SoCon regular-season matches during his tenure, finishing a perfect 43-0 as part of an impressive 139-44 overall record (.760 winning percentage).

Furman's success under Herendeen didn't just stem from its dominance in conference play as the Paladins boasted 11 wins over power-five programs the last three seasons alone, including four victories over top-30 programs such as No. 16 Wake Forest, No. 18 South Carolina, No. 26 Alabama and his new program in No. 24 Texas Tech this past spring.

Those signature wins combined with its conference success pushed Furman into the top echelon of women's tennis programs as the Paladins moved into the national rankings the past two years, rising as high as No. 19 in the polls for the first time in program history. Furman also boasted the SoCon Player of the Year in six of its seven seasons under Herendeen.

Herendeen accepted the Furman position in 2016 following four years leading the men's program for his alma mater, Presbyterian, where he led the Blue Hose to 20 or more wins in each of his last three seasons. Presbyterian was one of only nine Division I programs to hit the 20-win mark three times during that stretch and one of only two to do so from non-power five conferences.

During his four years, Herendeen compiled a 79-42 overall record as Presbyterian captured its first Big South regular-season title in any sport in 2014. The Blue Hose, who had a program record 25 wins that year, previously advanced to the championship match of the Big South Tournament in each of Herendeen's first two seasons leading the program.

Herendeen, a native of Douglasville, Georgia, is a combined 218-86 over his 11 seasons as a collegiate head coach, a staggering .717 winning percentage. He was promoted to head coach in 2012 following two seasons as an assistant coach for both the Presbyterian men's and women's tennis programs.

A 2009 graduate of Presbyterian, Herendeen earned his bachelor's degree in religion and later completed his master's degree in coaching and athletic administration from Concordia at Irvine in 2015. He was a four-year letterwinner for the Blue Hose and was undefeated during his first two seasons at Presbyterian.

Herendeen and his wife, the former Erin Booth, are parents to two daughters, Anna and Grayson.
